SEGANTINI PROJECT

Returning to light

The restoration of Segantini’s iconic work, “Autumn Sun,” required a delicate and highly specialized approach, aimed at removing a yellowed patina that had dulled the original colors. This layer, applied during a restoration in the 1980s, had oxidized over time, altering the chromatic balance. Our intervention was guided by science and sensitivity to the work:

  • Advanced diagnostics:
using UV light, infrared light, and material analysis, they revealed not only the hidden details of Segantini’s technique, but also unique color nuances, such as shadows composed of cobalt blue and cerulean, rather than black.
  • Innovative cleaning:
with light and delicate foams, inspired by cosmetics, which allowed dirt to be removed without compromising the paint film.
  • Minimal pictorial retouching:
to harmonize any discontinuities, maintaining absolute respect for the originality of the work.
