Light of divisionism
The restoration of Gaetano Previati’s “The Kiss” was a stimulating opportunity, approached with a scientific approach and innovative technologies to preserve the artist’s unique Pointillist technique.
The main phases of the project included:
- Cleaning:
- Multispectral (UV, reflectography, infrared) and spectroscopic investigations on microsamples revealed hidden details of Boldini’s painting technique.
- Structural consolidation:
Use of a combined Aquazol-based adhesive to ensure the stability of the paint film and the substrate without compromising the reversibility of the intervention.
- Diagnostic investigations:
Multispectral (UV, infrared, fluorescence) and spectroscopic analyses are performed on microsamples to understand the original materials and their alterations over time.
This intervention has allowed us to bring back to light the extraordinary chromatic vibration and emotional depth that characterize Previati’s Divisionist style.
