GUERCINO PROJECT

The strength of delicacy

The restoration of Guercino’s “Guardian Angel” required a targeted approach to halt the deterioration and restore the work to its original beauty. The priority was stabilizing the paint layer, followed by thorough cleaning and a transparent lining to ensure structural stability.

  • The transparent glaze:
  • played a key role in blocking color loss while preserving the original color appearance.
  • Cleaning:
  • was carried out in an aqueous environment using specific emulsions: first, a hypertonic emulsion to remove the film-forming layer, followed by an isotonic emulsion to gently clean the paint layer.
  • The transparent lining:
  • made with a foam adhesive, it helped stabilize the work without altering its lightness.
